It must've been weird waking up after fighting Jotaro. Just imagine, you're Kakyoin, you've been beaten to hell and back (w/a good few hits of your own), you wake up and you're no longer mind controlled.
My perception of the flesh buds is that the people under their influence are still mostly (if not totally) there, it's just that their inclinations are now steered towards the controller's wants.
So, Kakyoin was forced to fight Jotaro, but the way he fought him was entirely Kak. The kerchief, the model of morality, I think that was Kakyoin's thinking.
If Kakyoin had been picking a fight with someone he had a genuine issue with, I think it'd be similar. (Maybe some sort of 'what-if' scenario lingering in the back of his mind? I know that Kakyoin isn't going to inherently choose violence over avoidance).
I feel that Polnareff's fight with Avdol also supports my perception. Like, the way Pol acts throughout is consistent with what we see after he's been freed, he's just less intense, less malicious. The dude was able to choose between burning alive + stabbing a guy in the back and, y'know, chose the former. I think if the bud had a kind of erasing control he'd choose the knife.
Gah, I have no idea if this is what anybody else thinks (if I'm just repeating shit) I just felt like articulating the thought process I had.
